The Advanced Sensors and Techniques Group develops and demonstrates tactically relevant space situational awareness (SSA) technology in support of space security. The group focuses on the techniques, operational concepts, and advanced sensor systems that obtain timely and predictive information about space objects. Advanced technologies relevant to this focus area include state-of-the-art electro-optical and radar sensors employing advanced algorithms in bistatic, multistatic, and SAR/ISAR architectures for tactical search, custody, and characterization of space objects.The group's diverse team of scientists and engineers have expertise in electrical and computer engineering, computer science, physical science, applied mathematics, and various engineering backgrounds. Job DescriptionThe Advanced Sensors and Techniques Group is looking for an embedded systems engineer to develop real-time high-rate sampling systems, digital signal processing algorithms, and feedback and control algorithms for radar and electronic warfare applications. The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of VHDL or Verilog, along with demonstrated skill in simulation and implementation of pipelined, parallel, and multi-rate processing techniques. Principal areas of research include digital radio frequency memory, software defined radio, precision timing generation, digital signal processing, direct digital synthesis, and digital design. The successful candidate will design, implement, test, and debug complex sensor-system software and firmware and contribute to the formulation of overall architectures and approaches for the creation of sensor systems in lab and field-site environments.Requirements:M.S. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or related discipline. To ensure the relevance of all the group's efforts, we forward deploy staff at key space command centers to tightly integrate with real-world operations. We are seeking an analyst to promote advanced space control capabilities from the JSpOC and 18th SPCS at Vandenberg AFB. This analyst will perform and promote continuous development of remote sensing capabilities and the analysis of collected data in support of space control decision making. The analyst will be the local lead for Lab participation all JFCC Space operations. As such, they will be the principal liaison to the units and operators for planning and execution of exercises as well as for coordination of Lab reachback. Duties include on-site support for anomaly resolution, software build content development, and reachback. The analyst will support the design, development, installation and testing of Lab provided software and hardware as required. Candidates should have knowledge of and experience in orbital mechanics in both Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geosynchronous (GEO) regimes. Candidates should also have experience with management and/or acquisition of developing and delivering new satellite systems. Candidates must have the ability to self-study, complete assignments independently and in a team environment, and effectively present results. Candidates should be comfortable interfacing with sponsors, contractor partners, and vendors that have overlapping responsibilities but varied degrees of familiarity with orbital dynamics and SSA data processing techniques. Can didates with experience in SSA data processing techniques will be given special consideration.
